Let me tell you about Himachal Pradesh—it’s the kind of place where every moment feels magical, especially if you’re there with someone you love. It’s no wonder so many couples pick it for their honeymoon. Think peaceful mountain towns, cozy stays, and picture-perfect views that make you forget the rest of the world exists.

When my friends Riya and Ankit went to Himachal for their honeymoon, they couldn’t stop raving about it. From the little cafes to the snow-dusted peaks, they had the kind of trip most of us only dream about. They shared every detail with me, so here’s the full scoop on how you can make your honeymoon in Himachal unforgettable.

Starting in Dharamshala

It is very good to begin your tour with Dharamshala. Nestled deep into hills, it is that sort of a place which gives the impression of being slow and peaceful. The type of environment which is perfect after the stress of organising the wedding ceremony.

Riya told me their hotel had a balcony with a view of the mountains. Imagine starting your day wrapped in a blanket, sipping hot chai while the sun rises over the peaks. It’s the simple things like this that make a trip so special.

They used their first day exploring a town by walking around and observing small shops then enjoying the calm environment. I have always come to understand why people feel comfortable once they are near the mountains.

A Day in McLeod Ganj

Just a short drive from Dharamshala is McLeod Ganj, and trust me, it’s worth thIf you just drive down the hills for 30 km, you get to McLeod Ganj and it sure is a beautiful place to be. It’s a bright little place and you can find traces of Tibet in the food, monasteries and in flags hanging high up in the air.

Their favourite place, Riya said, was the Dalai Lama Temple. It doesn’t matter that you are not a religious person in some sense, it just feels soothing to be there. And the views from up there? Absolutely stunning.

Later they strolled around the streets viewing several shops which specialised in souvenirs made by hand. But of course they had to taste Pennsylvania food, Literally those are the words that were said by the group of men. So, if you do end up going, definitely make sure you try the momos!

A Thrill in Bir Billing

Now, if you’re the adventurous type, you can’t miss Bir Billing. It’s about an hour’s drive from Dharamshala and is famous for paragliding. Riya and Ankit decided to give it a shot, and according to them, it was the highlight of their trip.

Picture yourself and your lover flying over the tops of mountains with only valleys in the horizon. It is a moment that nobody can forget. But if paragliding is not your kind of stuff, you don’t need to worry. It’s just as good for a more relaxing time as the tea gardens and overall ambience of Bir make for.

Romance in Palampur

Palampur is another gem they explored. It’s quieter and more relaxed, which makes it ideal for couples looking to unwind. They spent an evening walking through the tea gardens, holding hands and just enjoying the tranquillity.

Riya mentioned a little café they found with outdoor seating. They sat there, sipping coffee as the sun set behind the mountains. She said it was one of those moments that just felt perfect.

Tips for Planning Your Trip

Here’s what Riya and Ankit suggested for anyone planning a honeymoon in Himachal:

  1. Take it slow. Don’t try to pack too much into one day. Himachal is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace.
  2. Mix adventure and relaxation. A little thrill, like paragliding, balanced with peaceful evenings in places like Palampur, is the key to a great trip.
  3. Pack wisely. Even in summer, the evenings can get chilly. Layered clothing is your best friend here.

Why Himachal is So Special for Honeymooners

Himachal isn’t just a destination; it’s an experience. The mountains, the air, the quiet—everything about it feels like it’s designed to bring people closer. Whether you’re exploring the busy streets of McLeod Ganj or sitting by a fire under a blanket of stars, it’s the kind of trip that stays with you forever.

Riya told me that some of their best memories weren’t even from the big sightseeing spots. It was the little things—like talking for hours on their hotel balcony, or sharing a plate of momos at a roadside stall. These are the moments that truly make a honeymoon.
